Goal: To improve my problem solving skills

Action Plan:
1.To solve 5 problems on my own per week. (Any type of problems!)
2. Use resources like internet, notes or books.
3. I need to be confident that I can do it.
4. Recall and visualize the situation when information was given.
5. Looking at surroundings and how other people are solving the problem.
6. If nothing works ask for help.

Student:
Which of the steps in your action plan have you been doing? Which ones haven’t you been doing? Why? In which ways do you feel like you have made progress toward achieving your goal? Explain.
The step I have been doing is 4. Recalling and visualizing the situation that information was given because today I remembered that you don't need a user name and password for h2o heroes. I haven't been doing 5. Looking at surroundings and how other people are solving the problem because I didn't think it would help but I will try it to see if it will work. I feel that I've made progress because I did all of my math on my own.

I have been trying to be more confident. When I was doing my homework, my goal was to finish it in 20 minutes. That was unlikely because I do my home work very slowly. But I did it! The step that I haven't been doing is number five see what other people are doing. I don't do that because I do other things that get me my answer. I feel that I've made progress because I do most of my home work by my self. In group projects, we have found solutions by using resources instead of asking the teacher. Also, I am asking less questions to my teachers and mom.

The step I have been doing is number two use resources like internet, notes and books. I have't you been doing step number four recall and visualize the situation when information was given because the resources have given me the help I need to solve the problem. I feel I have made progress because I use the internet and materials given to solve my problem instead of asking an adult for help and I do most of my studying for quizzes or test on my own.

Parent:
Which of the steps in the action plan has your child been doing? Which steps hasn’t your child been doing? Why? Do you feel like your child has made progress toward achieving the goal? Explain.

Cole does a great job following directions and trying to find information on the internet. He struggles finding solutions on his own for both academic and everyday functioning around the house. He relies on his parents' input, direction and explanation to follow through. Without assistance and parental presence, he will take a long time on homework and task completion. He would benefit from strategies to recall, organize and assess the situation in order to find the solution. He has been making a better effort to organize his materials and bring home the appropriate resources for completion of homework. He does a nice job packing up and preparing for school each day to ensure he has the materials he needs.

Cole is starting to ask fewer questions and work more independently. He has experimented around with his new computer in order to find more answers; his organization has improved which has aided in his resources. While he continues to ask for help and relies on the adults, he will backtrack and say he can do it demonstrating confidence. He would benefit from more recall in order to complete and follow through in certain situations in order to solve the problem more affectively.

Cole is really achieving the goals. He is trying to function independently at home and following through without asking for more help. He is organizing his materials better and is trying to think through the process better. We have been working on using a visual memory to form a picture to help solve problems and recall situations. At home there are not peers around to aide him in his discovery but he assures me he is doing this well at home. We are proud of his accomplishments! Go Cole!
